processing is a major application of computers today. Word processing is the
process of using a computer to type, edit, store, and print any document that would traditionally be done on a typewriter. It allows the writer much more
flexibility than with a typewriter, which is basically due to the greater
editing power available. This chapter will present you with a brief but
thorough introduction to word processing, centered around Black Magic's word processor. Black Magic's Word Processor Screen Display Macro Capability Configuration Public Domain Black Magic's Word Processor Word Processing Among the standard features of Black Magic are: Complete Editing, Searching
and Replacing, Justification of text, Automatic Word Wrap, and a full range of
capabilities for movement within your document. In short Black Magic starts with all the basic capabilities that any good word processor should have. Screen Display Due to Black Magic's use of bit mapped graphics, Black Magic is able to
display text on screen with print characteristics that other word processor's
cannot. These characteristics can include BOLD, UNDERLINED, DOUBLE UNDERLINED,
ITALICS, and any combinations of these. Since Black Magic does display all
these attributes on screen, there is no need to worry about embedding
different formatting codes in your text to achieve these effects. Black Magic
does it all for you right on the screen. Macro Capability Chapter 11. - Macros Black Magic includes a complete macro facility that is similar to that of
stand alone macro utilities. A macro is a series of keystrokes that can be
assigned to a single key or combination of keys. Consider the phrase: For Example This phrase takes 11 keystrokes to type. This phrase could be invoked with two
keystrokes by using a macro. The two keystrokes in this case could be: <F7> F.
The first keystroke, <F7>, is the Macro Run command. It indicates that Magic
should playback the macro assigned to the next key pressed. Here the "F" had
the "For Example" assigned to it. This macro though trivial, illustrates the
convenience of macros. Furthermore macros don't have to be text, they can be commands to Black Magic to automate certain processes such as saving files
or changing defaults on the config screen.
Configuration Chapter 11. - Configuration Black Magic allows you considerable flexibility in its configuration giving
the user many options. This tends to make Black Magic much "nicer" to work in.
Among the items that Black Magic allows you to configure are text and background color, default directories, and default right and left margins. Public Domain Although Black Magic itself is not Public Domain software; It is shareware,
